Girls Are Powerful™ is a nonprofit organization, founded in 2013, and a personal transformation movement dedicated to energizing girls and young women to embrace their unique individuality, foster strength of character, and support one another to create a new generation of empowered women. Community events and workshops encourage all girls to love and celebrate their POWER of being Beautiful, Smart, Confident, Unique and Determined.

Our Mission:
To build and enhance the self-esteem of girls and young women by inspiring them to recognize and embrace their natural qualities of beauty, uniqueness, intellect and determination.

Key initiatives:

Workshops: We offer a series of workshops that align with our Dig DEEP model (Discover their Differences, Acknowledge their Essence, Build their Esteem, Embrace their Power) that encourages girls to love and celebrate their qualities. Our workshops offer fun active learning experiences that consist of group discussion, role-playing and other related activities and are designed to define and enhance the character of girls by helping them identify their personal power.

Community Events:
• Community Pop-up Workshops. These themed workshops are hosted in different cities in and around the Twin Cities 3-4 times a year. They serve as a way to introduce communities to Girls Are Powerful.

• Girl Connect. In an effort to keep the momentum going for those girls who have attended one of our community events or workshops, we are offering them a way to continue exploring our power words, through arts, theater, movies and other exciting activities around the Twin Cities.

About the opportunity

Girls Are Powerful (GRP) is launching its Mentor Program. The program will encourage girls to discover their power through conversation, exploration, and coaching within a safe environment for sharing and growth. The pilot program will launch in the fall of 2021 as a phased approach starting with girls in grades 3rd-5th.

 

Role Summary 

The Communications Specialist will create and implement the communication & marketing plan for GRP’s Mentor Program. This role will use existing GRP communications channels as well as suggest new communications channels to create awareness and promote the program with the ultimate goal of securing participants.

Time Commitment: 5-10 hours per month, 1 Year Commitment

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for

  • Creating and implementing overall communication and marketing plan
  • Identifying and implementing new channels to promote the program
  • Creating, maintaining and overseeing execution of communication and marketing activities calendar
  • Write content for both print and web including promotional materials, website, blog, brochures, campaigns, and newsletter.
  • Develop content for the website, newsletters, and social media sites.
  • Partnering with GRP team members, including Community Outreach Coordinator, Social Media Specialist, Graphic Designer and Core GRP Mentorship Planning Team to unite all communications efforts including PR,  social media, community outreach and traditional marketing.
  • Directing the creation of marketing materials needed to promote program and overseeing the dispersal of these marketing materials, including directing website updates
  • Establishing communications goals and reporting results
  • Performing other duties that may arise from the mentoring program that are necessary for program success
  • Make sure that all promotional and marketing materials meet the organization’s brand identity strategy.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

It is expected that the candidate for this position has all or most of the following:

  • Experience in marketing/communications for non-profit or similar role
  • Ability to both lead and collaborate with GRP team members in execution of plan
  • Excellent written, presentation, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of marketing analytics
  • Ability to work digitally; access to personal computer/phone
