Junior Associate – Message Matters

Message Matters is seeking a junior associate to help us meet the needs of a diverse range of clients. For the right candidate, this is a significant professional development opportunity in the early stages of their career in communications. The successful candidate will have strong communications, writing and organisational skills, as well as a keen sense of professionalism when working alongside others. Knowledge of and interest in Scottish public affairs and public policy is desirable.

Role Profile and Competencies

Essential

  • Undergraduate degree qualified, particularly in any field related to communications or public policy.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills, and attention to detail.
  • Experience of digital communications or marketing.
  • Experience of web content administration, wordpress/oxygen development, and search engine optimisation and analytics.
  • Experience with the main social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of the Office package (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).

Desirable

  • Postgraduate degree, in communications, public affairs or public policy, or work experience in one of those areas.
  • Experience using a customer relationship management system (CRMS) and e-newsletter software (i.e. NationBuilder, Constant Contact, or Mailchimp).
  • Experience in graphic design.
  • Familiarity with any of the following programs/platforms: WordPress, Hootsuite, Canva, Wakelet.
  • Experience of project management or program delivery.
  • Knowledge of, or interest in, public policy and the news agenda.

Communications

  • Management of website, CRMS, and newsletter editors ( WordPress, Constant Contact).
  • Management and updating of website content across client websites.
  • Management of website design updates with our website designers.
  • Management of and posting on social media accounts (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) on behalf of clients.
  • Preparation of newsletters and event bulletins.
  • Preparation of copy for articles, press releases, blogs or reports as required.
  • Creation of social media content as required.
  • Provision of multi-channel communications support for campaigns, award programmes and major events/conferences
  • Recording and monitoring of web and social media analytics; provision of regular updates to clients.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engaging in regular strategic dialogue with clients’ partner organisations and key stakeholders regarding their communications priorities.
  • Engagement with and sharing content from clients’ members and wider networks.
  • Liaising with external PR associates on media relations and communications where appropriate.
  • Handling communications-related public queries.

Additional

  • Project management and programme development of campaigns, awards and policy resources in conjunction with other team members.
  • Remaining attuned to and working closely with other team members on their activities, providing input from a communications perspective.
  • Potential ad-hoc additional support where required, such as minute-taking and organisation of meetings.
