Sheffield Steel Systems Limited (“the Company”) is seeking a talented and motivated Legal Officer to join our team. As a Legal Officer within the Human Resources Department, you will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with all employment-related statutory requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:
a) Ensure that the organization complies with all labor laws and regulations.
b) Monitor changes in legislation and update company policies accordingly.
c) Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that comply with legal standards.
Contract Management:
a) Draft, review, and negotiate employment contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
b) Ensure that all contracts are legally sound and protect the organization’s interests.
Dispute Resolution:
a) Handle employee grievances and disciplinary actions in accordance with legal standards.
b) Represent the organization in labor disputes, negotiations, and mediations.
c) Assist in resolving conflicts between employees and management.
Training and Advising:
a) Provide legal guidance and training to HR staff and management on employment law and compliance issues.
b) Advise on legal implications of HR policies and practices.
Policy Development and Implementation:
a) Develop and enforce HR policies that promote a fair and compliant workplace.
b) Implement procedures to handle issues such as harassment, discrimination, and workplace safety.
Investigations:
a) Conduct internal investigations related to employee misconduct, compliance issues, or other legal matters.
b) Gather and analyze evidence, and document findings in a thorough and unbiased manner.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
a) Maintain accurate records of all legal matters, including contracts, disputes, and compliance reports.
b) Ensure that documentation meets legal standards and is easily accessible for audits or legal proceedings.
Risk Management:
a) Identify potential legal risks related to HR activities and develop strategies to mitigate them.
b) Conduct risk assessments and recommend corrective actions to prevent legal issues.
Collaboration:
a) Work closely with other departments, such as finance and operations, to ensure legal compliance across the organization.
b) Collaborate with external legal counsel when necessary.
Reporting:
a) Prepare and present reports on legal matters to senior management.
b) Keep the HR department informed about relevant legal developments and their potential impact on the organization.
Educational Qualifications:
1. Law Degree or Related field.
Professional Experience:
Legal Experience:
a) 2-3 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on employment law, labor relations, or corporate law.
b) Experience working with HR departments or handling HR-related legal matters.
HR Experience:
a) Prior experience in an HR role or working closely with HR professionals can be beneficial.
b) Understanding of HR practices, policies, and procedures.
