Job Summary
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Lead, Verifications (Background Checks) to oversee and manage our background verification processes. This role requires strong leadership skills, the ability to conduct thorough research, and a keen eye for identifying potential risks. The ideal candidate will be responsible for verifying employment and educational credentials, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and optimizing verification workflows. The role also involves leading a team, ensuring operational efficiency, and maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the background verification team, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
- Conduct background verification checks, including employment history, education, social security, credit reference, and criminal records.
- Analyze verification reports, identify discrepancies, and escalate high-risk findings.
- Maintain detailed and organized records of verification processes using Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis) and Google Sheets.
- Research and verify candidate information using multiple trusted sources.
- Communicate effectively with candidates, employers, educational institutions, and other verification sources.
- Ensure that all verifications comply with regulatory standards, internal policies, and industry best practices.
- Continuously improve verification processes by identifying inefficiencies and implementing solutions.
- Train and mentor team members to enhance their research and analytical skills.
- Collaborate with internal teams to enhance reporting, risk assessment, and compliance processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Criminology, or a related field.
- Proven leadership skills with experience managing or mentoring a team.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to assess information and detect inconsistencies.
- Excellent research and analytical skills to verify data accurately and efficiently.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for engaging with stakeholders.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis) and Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Forms, Drive).
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple verification requests under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently and within a team.
- Experience in background verification, compliance, or risk assessment is an advantage.
